Hard times? Try these activities……..

Is the bank account a little low? Are you concerned about the economic downturn?  Why not simplify your lifestyle and try a few of these idea?  

  •  !. Visit the library–free movies, free books, free computer/internet use…. what can be better than that?
  • 2. Talk a walk, go on a hike, visit the park… catch a little sunshine and brighten up your day.
  • 3.  Go on a picnic–it doesn’t have to be any place exotic–even your backyard will do.
  • 4.  Host a potluck dinner/picnic–invite the family, friends, or get to know your neighbors.
  • 5.  Host a clothing exchange–these are even getting popular in the cities. 
  • 6.  Organize a yard sale–get rid of that stuff that’s cluttering up your garage or storeroom and turn it into cash.
  • 7.  Checkout Craig’s List.
  • 8.  Join a reading group or start one with some friends.
  • 9.  Trade entertainment–Got old CDs, DVDs, games, comic books, board games laying around collecting dust–get a swap meet going and trade for different ones with others in the same situation.
  • 10.  Do a container garden–not as much work as a big one, and fun for the kids to watch plants grow, develop and maybe even eat!
  • 11. Get creative–Make your own greeting cards out of scraps around the house–ribbons, material, buttons, wrapping paper, wall paper… just set it on the table with glue and scissors and let the creative juices take over.
  • 12. Get fit–grab a couple of fitness videos at the library or ask a friend to join you exercise–the Biggest Losers on TV aren’t the only ones who can get in shape.
  • 13.  Learn about a new subject that interests you…. There are lots of new books at the library that will help you. 
  • 14.  Learn to bake bread–the library has videos/books that will guide you through the entire process… It’s really not that difficult and it helps get rid of stress.
  • 15.  Volunteer–The library will be looking for people to help with the Summer Reading Program which is “Be Creative @ the Library” .  If you have a special talent that you would like to share with the kids, stop by and discuss the possibilities with the staff to see where you might fit in this summer.
