Sheri Edelman is new Children's Librarian at MCPL

Mary Cotton Public Library (MCPL) is excited to officially announce that Sheri Edelman of Sabetha is the new, part-time Children’s Librarian at MCPL. Edelman is passionate about kids and brings years of experience in both librarianship and teaching to our local library. MCPL is so excited to have her on staff to serve the youth and families of our community!

Sheri Edelman, new Children's Librarian, started her new position in January 2022.

Edelman officially started in her new role in mid-January. She is responsible for managing both the Youth Library and children’s programming, which includes the Summer Reading Program. She’s excited to serve our youngest patrons and is looking forward to adding some fun new activities. Edelman will be working part-time Wednesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the school year, with additional hours during the summer months to oversee the Summer Reading Program.

ABOUT SHERI

After graduating from Kansas State University with an education degree, Edelman taught seventh grade science in Overland Park for five years. She went on to get her masters degree in Educational Technology at Pittsburg State University, which included a Certification in Library Media Science.

Then, Edelman worked as a librarian with the Olathe School District until she and her husband, David, got married. Edelman began substitute teaching in the Sabetha area until she had children, and then stayed home to raise their four girls – Kari, Kristi, Kylah and Kayleen. Once their youngest was in school, Edelman resumed substituting at the Sabetha schools. When not at the library, you can still find Sheri substitute teaching one day a week at Sabetha High School or at her girls’ activities.

Stop by the library Wednesday - Friday afternoons to say hi or introduce yourself! You can also reach Edelman via email at sheri@ sabethalibrary.org or by calling the library at 785-284-3160.
